Liyang Introduction

Located in the south of the Changzhou jurisdiction, Liyang is a county-level city with a history of 2,200 years, in which the name started to be used during Spring-Autumn Warlord Period, 221 B.C. In Shui Dynasty (591 A.D), Liyang was been established as a prefecture.
Liyang borders five cities of Jiangsu, including Gaochun, Lishui, Jurong, Jintang and Yixing, from three direction of the west-south-east. It neighbors as well cities under Jiaxing’s jurisdiction of Zhejiang Province. Liyang is located in the Jiangsu South Plain and is crisscrossed by numerous water bodies, including five lakes and lots of river. The city’s abundant freshwater is the crucial resource for its agricultural sector and tourist-oriented service industry. Like its neighbors, Liyang is on the subtropical belt and is influenced by a maritime monsoon climate, a mild and humid climate with distinct four seasons. The annual average temperature is 15-16ºC with the highest 38.6ºC recorded in the summer of 1988 and the lowest -15ºC in the winter of 1977. The average rain precipitation is 1,160 mm annually and the total sunshine time is 1,890 hours.
Liyang is under the jurisdiction of Changzhou. The county is comprised of 18 towns and 2 provincial special districts, the Liyang Economic Development Zone and Tianmu Lake Resort. The municipal government is stationed in the Town of Licheng, the largest town in the city as well as in entire Changzhou jurisdiction.
Tianmu Lake is a national 4-AAAA tourist destination, 8 km away from the city’s urban region. The lake originally included two water reservoirs and had been renovated into tourist-orientated site in 1992. The lake's ecological system is under a strict protection and the forest covering rate reaches 90% of the lake shore. A huge tea port, which is 3.5 m in tall and 1.9 in width, is stalled in the park as a decoration and has been recognized as the largest one by the Guinness World Records.
Other tourist destinations include Changdang Lake, Lungtanshan Hill Forest Park, Taigung Hill, and more.
