Qinghefang lies in the south of Hangzhou. Standing in Qinghefang Street, you can see o­ne of the ten famous new scenic spots of the West Lake – “Heavenly Wind over Wu Hill”. Although Wu hill is o­nly 100 meters high, yet its jagged cliffs and green trees make very good view. The pagoda-shaped building now you can see perching o­n the hill top the famed Chenghuangge (Town God Pavilion). A few hundred meters to the west of Qinghefang Street is the well-known West Lake. Therefore, Qinghefang Street is adjacent to a famous lake and a historical hill. Qinghefang is the o­nly well-preserved and intact ancient street in Hangzhou now, which keeps the traditional folk culture of Hangzhou. Qinghefang Street, Hangzhou has its own history. Though the city itself retains its umbilical cord with its hallowed past, nonetheless, it has become o­ne of the most modern cities in China. Qinghefang Street, is o­ne of the most historic streets in the city and reflects the Southern Song Dynasty’s architectural styles. Southern Song Dynasty reigned from 1127 AD to 1279 AD. The founder of this dynasty, Emperor Taizu had created a centralized system of governance which allowed him to have the concentration of power in his hands. This period had many refined scholars and artists. Qinghefang Street buildings are mostly from the Ming and Qing dynasties. You will find several antique buildings and locally made crafts, remember to buy silk parasols, brocades, famous Zhang Xiaoquan scissors and Hangzhou fans which are cherished all over the country and outside.
